Flea Season
is here!

Flea season is in full bloom, unfortunately. We all knew it would return as soon as the spring showers began. Did you know it takes 3 months (or more) to get rid of the fleas in your home and on your pet? The reason for this is a single female flea can lay up to 50 eggs PER DAY! That's alot of fleas in a 1 week period. People tend to get discouraged when using flea control because they want to see the fleas gone as soon as they apply the medication, due to the amount of eggs a female flea lays DAILY this just simply is not the case. The flea control you use for fleas works as long as the flea comes into contact with, or bites, the dog/cat.  The medicaiton does not work to get rid of the fleas in your yard or in your carpet. Many people apply the medication and see the difference with the fleas on the pet very quickly, but then become discouraged and think the medication is not working when they see fleas back on their pet days later. What you have to remember is ALL THOSE EGGS we talked about earlier are hatching and looking for a host to feed on. If your dog/cat is treated with a flea control, let them come, that is what is going to control your flea population in the long run. Many people do not like the thought of their pet being the "bait" but in the long run your house, your pet and yourself will be much happier.  You can help the control of eggs in your carpet by heavy vacumming DAILY (remember 1 female flea can lay 50 eggs per day)   Just remember 3 months is the number to shoot for, please do not think one month will take care of your flea problem  and if you live in a area where stray dogs/cats are abundant or you neighbor with 2 cats and 1 dog is not treating their pets for fleas your battle will be a hard one.
There are many types of flea control on the market today give us a call and let us see what will work the best for you.

Do you know what the signs are for you to look for if your pet is in organ failure?  If you wait until you see signs, it can be to late for your pet. When you take your pet in for their yearly vaccines and your receptionist or technician ask if you would like to run a Young Wellness Profile say "YES"!!
We are more than likely going to run a Heartworm test on your pet so for an additional $40.00 we can pull a little extra sample and send off a panel to check Liver, Kidney, Glucose, Heartworm and a Complete Blood Count on your pet. We have had some cases where we have found issues, and been able to help correct them, on even the youngest of pets. Don't wait until you see signs. By then it maybe to late.
